Robotic milking 2048 1024 px 2 - ForFarmers UK

Herds milked through a robot on average have higher yields than conventionally milked herds, clearly showing the benefits mimicking nature with the multiple milking of fresh cows leading to higher peak yields which improves overall annual lactation.

More milk requires more energy, especially as our robot farms are also producing more fat and protein, so yield from forage as a percentage is lower than conventional herds and concentrate use per litre is higher. It is worth noting that litres from forage for robot herds are still just shy of 3,000 litres.

Higher concentrate use per litre obviously reduces the margin per litre for the robot herds but this is hugely compensated for by the extra 1,769 litres a year returning a benefit of Margin Over Purchased Feed per cow of £241. On the average robot farm with 194 cows that’s an extra £46,754 a year.
